The author was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but the family of four moved to Cedarburg, Wisconsin when he was about ten years old. With some exceptions, elementary, middle, and high school were not enjoyable for him; however, a sixth grade English teacher, a high school English teacher, and an electronics teacher drew him toward writing and learning. After reading The Lord of the Rings, the art of story writing caught his attention. He went on to earn an associate degree in telecasting, a BA in English, a post baccalaureate to teach grades 6-12, and a master's in educational technology.
